  • The project currently under construction in the City of Henderson represents Phase 1 of overall Reimagine Boulder Highway project. 
  • Phase 2 continues this effort and focuses on approximately 7.75 miles of Boulder Highway north of the City of Henderson, building on the same goals of improving safety and overall roadway conditions.
  • The Phase 2 project extends from Gibson Rd/Broadbent Blvd to Charleston Blvd.
  • A detailed traffic analysis is currently underway to determine the number of lanes needed to accommodate both current and future traffic. Based on current expectations, Phase 2 is anticipated to maintain the existing number of travel lanes along most of Boulder Highway.
  • Potential improvements being evaluated include:
    • Improved lighting 
    • Safer and more visible pedestrian crossings
    • Center running transit lanes
    • Wider sidewalks
    • Protected bicycle lanes
    • New pavement and lane markings
  • These improvements are intended to make Boulder Highway safer and more comfortable for residents and businesses, and people driving, walking, biking, and using transit.  
  • Center‑running transit places buses in dedicated lanes in the middle of the roadway. This design offers several key advantages:
    • Improved Safety for Everyone
      With clearer, more predictable bus movements, all road users—drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders—benefit from safer roadway conditions.
    • More Reliable and Faster Transit Service
      By separating buses from general traffic, center‑running lanes minimize delays caused by congestion, improving travel times, schedule reliability, and overall ridership.
    • Fewer Conflicts with Other Road Users
      Operating in the center reduces interactions between buses and turning vehicles, driveways, and curbside activity. This helps lower the potential for bus–vehicle and bus–pedestrian conflicts.
    • Safe Access to Center‑Median Stations
      Signalized pedestrian crossings at intersections provide controlled, safe access to center‑median bus stops.
  • The project team is evaluating median treatments, which may include decorative fencing barriers in select locations or other features designed to discourage unsafe mid-block crossings and improve pedestrian safety.
  • Construction timing will depend on future funding. If funding is secured, construction could begin as early as 2029.
  • No. This phase includes planning, environmental analysis, and early high-level engineering design. Any final design or construction would go through additional review, public input and approval before moving forward.
